Sales-and-use tax vendor Avalara has hired Danny Fields, an Oracle veteran, as EVP of engineering and chief technology officer. He succeeds Peter Harodon, who left the Seattle, Wash.-based company in January

Crowe has named Justin Bass as the accounting firm's first chief data science officer. The Chicago-based accounting firm (known as Crowe Horwarth until this week) also created a  data science business unit, which employs more than 20 data scientists.

RSM US has named Jeff Johannesen as chief strategy and innovation officer, effective June 1. He has served firm’s national tax leader since 2011 and since 2015 has served as executive sponsor for the firm’s client experience strategy.

Dan Wernikoff, the EVP who has led Intuit’s Consumer Group, is shifting roles. CEO Brad Smith said during this week’s earnings webcast that after Intuit ends its year on July 31, Wernikoff will move into a role working with Smith on strategic projects.
