Firms Revs Improve; Profit Picture Mixed

AICPAMost CPA firms have experienced increases in revenue over their most recent fiscal year. That is the finding of the 2016 National Management of an Accounting Practice (MAP) Survey conducted by the American Institute of CPAs. The survey derived its findings from information gathered from May through June from 1,537 CPA firms about their latest financial year results.

Pamela Turay, BlucoraBlucora, which owns the TaxAct software line, has named Pamela Turay as chief human resources officer. Turay was previously SVP for tax services chain Jackson Hewitt. She began her new job on October 3.

Preparer Guilty in ID Fraud

A Cranston, R.I.-based tax preparer has pleaded guilty to using stolen identifies to receive more than 100 government checks in the amount of $800,700 and deposit them into her personal bank account. The preparer, Belkis M. Guzman, 48, pleaded to aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns, wire fraud, theft of government funds and aggravated identity theft.

Jerry Connor, who worked at CCH/Wolters Kluwer for 24 years, has joined Sage as product evangelist. Conner's recent job change was shown this week on his LinkedIN profile, which says he will be working with products such as Sage Live and Sage View for Accountants.

Gramlich Gone from AccountantsWorld

Jeff Gramlich, AccountantsWorldJeff Gramlich has left AccountantsWorld. Gramlich's LinkedIn profile shows that he left the Hauppauge, N.Y.-based software company to form Gramlich Consulting in February after serving as president of AccountantsWorld from August 2013. The company has issued no official statement about his departure.

Intuit Names New Marketing VP

Lucas Watson, IntuitIntuit has named Lucas Watson as chief marketing and sales officer. He replaces Caroline Donohue, who said in February she would retire after 21 years with the software company. Watson will begin his job on August 22.

Watson came from Google where he served as VP of global brand solutions and innovations and had worked there from June 2011.

Nancy Harris, SageSage is moving Nancy Harris from her role in running its Canadian operations to managing its Sage's North American partner and accountant business. Harris who has been EVP in Canada since August 14, has been named EVP of the United States-based operation.
