Block CEO Cobb to Leave

Bill Cobb, the CEO of H&R Block will leave the tax services company on July 31. He will by replaced by general counsel and chief administrative officer, Tom Gerke, who will serve as interim president and CEO. The board of directors will consider both internal and external candidates.

As we look at tax season in the rearview mirror, it's time to think about strategic planning for our firms. Most CPAs are very effective and accomplished in the planning process. We invest the time and money in a retreat, we focus on the future, get lots of ideas on the table, agree on objectives and goals for the next year, commit to an action plan and sincerely want to move the firm forward.

Ray Barlow, who lead Sage's accountant program, has joined XCM Services of Quincy, Mass., as SVP. In his new position, he is responsible for Xpitax Accounting and Tax outsourcing services. Barlow was VP of accountant solutions at Sage from August 2015 through this month.

Bonnie McWilliams Nagayama, who was well-known in the QuickBooks community, has passed away. President of the CPA firm McWilliams & Associates, Nagayama was described on Intuit's Firm of the Future website as "one of the elite few members of the Intuit Trainer/Writer Network." She founded her firm in October 1992.
