Industry veteran Euan Menzies has been named interim CEO of Drake Software. The company says the transition in leadership comes at a time of increased investment including plans to add at least 100 full-time positions over the next six months.
Weaver Adds Forensics Team Member

Accounting firm Weaver has added Victor Padilla as managing director in its forensics and litigation services practice. Padilla has more than 15 years of experience in this area, including what was described as “a broad array of cases involving investigations of kickbacks, collusive bidding and money laundering, among other unlawful activities.”

Paychex Exec Pay OK Despite COVID

In a period in which the COVID-19 pandemic took big chunks out of many workers’ pay, named executives for Paychex did not fair badly for the year ended May 31. The smallest increase went to CEO Martin Mucci who had a 19.3-percent rise over fiscal 2020 while three others had increases that topped 34 percent.

The California Society of CPAs and CalCPA Education Foundation have hired Denise LeDuc Froemming, as president and CEO of both organizations. Froemming will move into the positions on October 18.

Over breakfast, a group of CPAs at last month’s AIPCA Engage conference, discussing remote work, said there was no substitute for in-person work when it comes to training young accountants. Later that day, Jennifer Wilson, a partner with Convergence Coaching, said the objection is off base because training at most firms just isn’t that good.

Ursillo, a partner with Cherry Bekaert, and Jim Bourke, a partner with Withum, told attendees that clients would prefer to receive such services from their CPA firm.
