Rippling Expands EOR Program 2

Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.
With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.
In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.
Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and
filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those

The write off of impaired goodwill for a subsidiary coupled with a charge that reduced its deferred tax asset pushed educational specialist SmartPros to a loss of $1.9 million for the year ended December 31. That compared to net income of $154,125 for 2011. Meanwhile, revenue for the recently ended year dropped to $15.9 million, down 6.4 percent from nearly $17 million for the prior year.

Intuit Issues May Delay Some Minnesota Refunds

The Minnesota Department of Revenue yesterday issued a list of problems found with Intuit tax software and what is being doing to correct them. This followed Intuit's announcement it had made available fixes to solve problems with its software that caused the department to warn state residents not to use any of Intuit's four tax packages to prepare and file returns, either via paper or electronically. The state warned that three out of 13 issues might cause delays in refunds.
Intuit Releases Minnesota Tax Software Fixes
Intuit has released fixes for four software programs that had errors in calculating Minnesota tax returns. The fixes involved all of the company's tax products, TurboTax, Lacerte, ProSeries and Intuit Tax Online, in an embarrassing situation in which the Minnesota Department of Revenue publicly warned its residents over the weekend not to use Intuit tax products to prepare or file either electronic or paper returns.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue has warned state taxpayers not to use any of Intuit's tax products for filing returns. The statement issued this weekend applied to paper and efiled returns and covers Intuit's TurboTax, Intuit Online, Lacerte and ProSeries software packages because of issues Intuit had discovered that could affect the accuracy of the returns.

A federal jury has convicted a Baton Rouge, La., tax preparer of fraud and failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars of her own income on tax returns. Angela Myers, who operated Angie's Tax Service, was found guilty of wire fraud, making false claims, subscribing to false tax returns and aggravated identity theft. Many of her victims were patients confined to a nursing home.
IRS Delay Chops Block Revenue

The delay in accepting tax returns by the Internal Revenue Service took a big bite out of financial results for H&R Block for the third quarter ended January 31. The better news was that while revenue dipped by 29.1 percent for the most recently ended period, the number of tax returns received by tax services chain were down only 5 percent for the tax season through February 28, compared to last year. Block says those results are consistent with the rest of the industry.

QuickBooks Online for iPad guides users through setup and customizing and sending a sample invoice, a common task in QuickBooks. Users can download customer information from Contacts, Gmail, Yahoo or LinkedIn, and customer pictures from Facebook. Signing up requires only a username and password.

SEC Restores CPA Who Reviewed Enron
Michael Lowther, who was barred from appearing before the SEC in January 2008, has been restored to practice there. The SEC found that Lowther had met the conditions imposed as a result of his actions as concurring reviewer for Arthur Andersen's audits and reviews of Enron's financial statements.

The Department of Justice has asked a federal court to prohibit Ahmed Grant and his wife, Lillian Madyun, from preparing federal tax returns for others. The government alleges the Tennessee residents have pumped up refunds claimed through a variety of means such as the unwarranted use of the Earned Income Tax Credit.
