Intuit's TV spots have stated Block advertises that applicants hired as tax season employees need no tax preparation experience. The ads also focus on couples who meet a plumber and a retail store clerk who had prepared their returns. Block claimed the ads left a false impressed that its preparers were not well trained, nor were they tax experts.
The federal court in Kansas City, Mo., denied Block's motion for a temporary restraining order that would have halted the Intuit ads.
A federal court has rejected the effort by H&R Block to force Intuit to withdraw two TurboTax television advertisements. Block had claimed the ads were misleading and also that Intuit had infringed on the tax store chain's trademark.
