CCH Unit Working to Resolve ATX Issues

CCH Small Firm Services says it is working to resolve issues affecting its ATX tax preparation software early in the tax season. The company said it has accelerated development and release of software updates and added personnel to handle customer calls, although it acknowledges hold times have risen.

The web-based interface for Accounting Relief has been redesigned for usability on all major browsers. Screens have been enhanced and now include information buttons for quick access to pop-up help. There are improvements to navigation such as the ability to drill down to trial balances and then return to the prior screen via one click.

Ruling Against IRS Stands, but PTINs OK

A federal judge has refused to suspend his injunction barring the Internal Revenue Service from requiring unlicensed tax preparers to pass tests or take continuing education. However, late last week, U.S. District Court Judge James E. Boasberg said the ruling did not affect the IRS requirement for paid preparers to have Preparer Tax Identification Numbers.
