The proposed improvements will simplify identity verification and expand access to online services while protecting data. Systems availability is also expected to improve while implementation of new tax provisions will be more straightforward.
IRS will implement the plan in two three-year phases. The investment should allow modernization of key systems and stabilization the cost of maintaining the technology ecosystem.
