IRS Names 16 New ETAAC Members

John Ams, National Society of AccountantsThe Internal Revenue Service has named 16 individuals to serve on Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee. The IRS appointed regulators, vendor representatives, consultants and members of industry associations as it reiterated its call for additional candidates for one, two and three-year terms. Applications were being accepted through September 19.

The committee is designed to serve as a public forum for discussion of electronic tax administration issues, including preventing identity theft and refund fraud. Members are working closely with the Security Summit, a joint effort involving effort of the IRS, state tax administrators and tax software industry to fight electronic fraud. 

Among the new members are John Ams, EVP and COO of the National Society of Accountants; Robert Barr, global managing director at Accenture, who has worked for the IRS; Shannon Bond, VP of commercial services with Wolters Kuwer; John Craig, a nonprofit consultant who specializes in strategy and technical support for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs; Jacob Dubreuil, a consulting manager for Revenue Solutions, Thomas Lorek, deputy chief information officer at the Indiana Department of Revenue;. Julie Magee, Alabama Revenue Commissioner; and
Demesia Padilla, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.

The other new members are Kathy Pickering, executive director of The Tax Institute and VP of regulatory affairs at H&R Block; Phillip Poirier, a volunteer and consultant with the Center for Enterprise Development and Senior Fellow at the Center for Social Development at Washington University in St. Louis; John Sapp, Drake Software's VP of strategic development; Deborah Sawyer a personal trust administrator in the banking industry and a Tax Advisor for H&R Block; Joseph Sica chief public policy officer for the Green Dot Tax Products Group; Mark Steber, chief tax officer with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service; Atilla Taluy founder of FileYourTaxes.com; and Doreen Warren, the Idaho State Tax Commission's public information director.
