The nation's largest tax store chain, H&R Block, said earlier that its network had prepared 22.2 million returns for the same period, up 4.5 percent from the 2011 season. Jackson Hewitt, the No. 2 tax store company, has not provided statistics about the number of returns its system prepared.
Liberty Tax Service said this week that its system prepared 7.9 percent more tax returns through April 18 than in the same period in 2011. Meanwhile, system-wide revenue rose by 4.7 percent.
