TaxAct Revenue Up

infospace logoTaxAct is expected to have revenue of $36 million to $38 million when its new owner, InfoSpace, reports results for its first quarter ending March 31. That represents two months of revenue, since InfoSpace took ownership of the tax preparation software company. However, InfoSpace executives declined to get specific about performance until they have more time with the new business.

That expected TaxAct revenue is part of the forecasted total of $109 million to $114 million for first quarter revenue for InfoSpace

"We have seen growth in revenue and EBITDA," CEO William Ruckelshaus said in this month's earnings webcast for the company's fourth quarter ended December 31. Ruckelshaus declined to state how results for TaxAct compared to a year ago. An analyst stated that when the deal closed the company had indicated it would achieve about 10-percent revenue growth with its tax preparatoin software unit. However, Ruckelshaus said the only statement that he could make is that "I feel comfortable that we are at least maintaining share against that market. We are encouraged by results. It is conforming to the plans we had around the acquisition." He also noted that it was very early in the tax season with the bulk of revenue yet to come.

InfoSpace is pleased by results from a Super Bowl television advertisement that was designed to familiarize the market with the TaxAct brand name. Ruckelshaus declined to state whether the company believes TaxAct has gained market share. Ruckelshaus said that the TaxAct team has performed well and achieved what he termed profitable growth.
