Block Picks Macfarlane as CFO

Gregory J. Macfarlane, H&R BlockH&R Block has hired Gregory J. Macfarlane, a former Ceridian executive, as its chief financial officer. He replaces Jeff Brown who remains with the company as chief accounting and risk officer.

Macfarlane was CFO of Ceridian from 2007 to 2011 and came aboard the payroll services company when it was taken private. Before that, he was with General Electric for 13 years and had been CFO for WMC Mortgage, GE Money from 2004 to 2007 and had been CFO of GE Partnership Marketing Group from 2001 to 2004. Brown was Block's corporate controller before becoming interim CFO early in 2010 and then taking over the job five months later in September 2010.

 

The new CFO joins Block during a corporte reorganization that the company said would help it save $85 million to $100 million for the year ending April 30, 2013.
