PCAB Bars Former Masschussetts CPA

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has banned Stephen Crane, a CPA who formerly worked in Massachusetts but who now lives in China, from associating with any accounting firm registered with the board. The organization took the action alleging Crane failed to cooperate with requestions for information and also did not pay the fees required of a PCAOB-registered firm. The firm's registration was also revoked.

The accountant was the owner of Crane P.C. of Cambridge, Mass., and had been registered with the PCAOB since 2007. It issued six audit opinions in that time, but only one since an inspection began on Nov. 9, 2009. During the first part of last year, Crane was repeatedly requested for information to prepare for an inspection, but did not provide it, according to a PCAOB document.

However, Crane continued to perform audit work and issued an opinion dated last July 14.
