Study: Hackers Target, SAP, Oracle Systems

xMariano Nunez, Onapsis Unpatched business systems from Oracle and SAP are being targeted by hackers, according to two security firms. In a recently released study, the firms, Digital Shadows and Onapsis, said at least a dozen companies and government agencies have been targeted while thousands of users are subject to exploitation of old security flaws.

"The urgency level among chief security officers and CEOs should be far higher," Onapsis Chief Executive Mariano Nunez said in an interview with Reuters. Many such issues are a decade or more old, but are now being targeted by hackers, cyber criminals and government spy agencies, according to the report.

As a result of the study, the Department of Homeland Security published an alert titled "Malicious cyber activity targeting ERP applications".

Issued in London, the report said systems at two government agencies and at media, energy and finance sectors businesses were hit after failing to install patches or take other security measures recommended by the software companies.
