IRS Extends EA, DAR Three Weeks

irsThe Internal Revenue Service has given its Disclosure Authorization and Electronic Account Resolution online services three more weeks of life. The IRS still plans to shut down the sites, despite support for them from several professional accounting organizations.

The planned shutdown has been delayed from August 11 until September 2 while the IRS readies a new web portal. The IRS says less than 10 percent of disclosure authorizations came through the DA application last year and only 3 percent of all account-related issues came in through the EAR application.

An improved electronic solution for DA and EAR is being explored.
After the applications are removed, former DA users need to complete Form 2848, Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative, or Form 8821, Tax Information Authorizations, and mail or fax it to the appropriate IRS location listed on the form's instructions.

The IRS says submitters should allow at least four days for authorizations to post to the IRS database before requesting a transcript through the Transcript Delivery System.
