The Alliantgroup - which helps clients take advantage of federal and state tax credits, incentives, and deductions - has hired Jim Mirabile as national director. Mirabile joins the Houston, Texas-based firm as national director and will continue serving the CPA profession after working at CCH since 1989.

The Internal Revenue Service plans to send warning letters to preparers who are suspected of filing inaccurate claims that involve the Earned Income Tax Credit. To be sent out this month and in December, the letters detail issues identified on returns and explain the consequences of filing inaccurate EITC claims.

CCH Tax & Accounting had a strong performance in tax software for its parent Wolters Kluwer in the third quarter ended September 30. The Netherlands-based company issued that report last week as part of a trading update for the most recently period. However, it said the gains at CCH were partially offset by reduced revenue from bank products and print formats.
