Video Use by Firms Likely to Rise

SocialCPAsThe use of video social media sites by accounting firms will increase this year as indicated by the 2014 Social CPAs Survey. Drawing from responses by 395 participants, the survey found that 38.3 percent of respondents plan to add YouTube or Vimeo to the list of social channels they use during 2015. Google+ also showed strong potential in the online survey.

The survey was conducted by SocialCPAs in collaboration with Inovautus Consulting and the Association for Accounting Marketing. It found that 32.6 percent of respondents anticipate beginning to use YouTube and another 5.7 percent, Vimeo, a video sharing service. Goggle+ was cited by 29.7 percent; LinkedIn by 19.4 percent.

With 17.7 percent of respondents registering their anticipated use, presentation sharing site Slideshare, outdrew Facebook (16.6 percent) and Twitter (16 percent).

Results showed the Big Three of social media—LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter—are the most widely used with LinkedIn the most popular choice. However, activity by firms is still relatively low with many organizations having few posts weekly. Most organizations still post manually, instead of using technology tools. And many lack social media policies.

Of respondents, 42.5 percent work in marketing and 35.1 percent were partners. Only one response was permitted for each firm. CPA firms comprised 85.1 percent of those participating; vendors and consultants to the accounting profession, 8.6 percent; bodies such as accounting associations and state societies, 6.3 percent.
