Taxpayers who utilize the Internal Revenue Service's Free File program can now use smart phones and tables to prepare and file federal and state tax returns. The IRS and companies which offer use of their software for free have implemented a design that supports desktops, laptops, mobile phones and tablets.Taxypayers can utilize mobile devices through the IRS2Go app, which has a link to the Free File Software Lookup. They can also www.IRS.gov/freefile and select the "Free File Software Lookup Tool" or "Start Free File Now" to find software product situation. IRS2Go is available for Android and iOS devices.
Those who adjusted gross incomes of $64,000 or less annually can pick from 12 software providers. The participating companies set eligibility requirements for their product, based on factors such as age, income or state residency. Some software vendors offer free federal and state tax return preparation; while some charge for state return preparation.
Active duty military personnel who meet the income requirements are exempt from any eligibility requirements and may use any Free File product for free.
