Wi-Fi in the Sky – An Update

wifiAdd American Airlines to the list of carriers that now offer Wi-Fi in The Sky. I'm on a three and a half hour flight and found it easier to justify the $5.95 charge for internet access.

Recently, I wrote an article called Wi-Fi in the Sky that compared the cost of this new service to the potential for improved productivity. While I'm not convinced that I will always want to be connected, it is pretty cool to think I can send emails from thirty thousand feet!

The process of getting connected was simple. All they needed was your name, address and credit card number. I found the service acceptable for general web browsing and email access. However, it was slow when I tried to watch an episode of a favorite television show. So much for be able to watch a Red Sox game while flying!

I have only one recommendation. Try not to think about or calculate the per-hour or per-month cost of this service. You'll have a much more enjoyable flight!
