Older Versions of QuickBooks Taking Up Too Much Space

In my last blog, I wrote about how to help those who just can’t seem to give up their old QuickBooks files. Some can’t give up their older editions of QuickBooks either which makes it hard for us to serve these clients since we don’t want to support multiple years and editions of QuickBooks on our computer systems. Maintaining older editions on your computer system can take up valuable space which is badly needed and can cause QuickBooks to move slowly. You may choose to uninstall the older versions by going through the control panel.  If an error message appears that you’re missing a component - What do you do?

If you no longer need those versions, you should remove them. However; since this may have something to do with the specific hardware you have or conflicting software on your computer, your best bet is to call Intuit Technical Support. Have you visited their site lately?  If not, it is time to give it another look! They have lots of ways to get support if you don't want to call - here is the link - http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Default.aspx?homepage=true.

Another option for dealing with clients that use older versions of QuickBooks and refuse to upgrade - is Remote Access.  Remote Access options can be free and for a fee – to help you to eliminate supporting every year’s edition of QuickBooks. Even if your client DOES upgrade – what if they are on QuickBooks Pro or a Premier versions that you don’t have?  As long as you have QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition – you can Toggle over to any edition of QuickBooks besides QuickBooks Online or Mac that way you install one version of QuickBooks on your computer and be able to help a client on any version of their choice for that year’s edition!

As you can see there are many options – stay tuned to future articles for more details!
