AICPA Wants Later Tax Deadline

The American Institute of CPAs has asked the Internal Revenue Service to extend this year’s tax filing and payment deadlines until June 15. This follows a letter earlier this week in which the AICPA urged the IRS and Treasury Department to give adequate notice of any postponements.

“In the current environment, it is simply not possible for many taxpayers and their tax advisers to meet their filing and payment obligations that are due on April 15,” the organization wrote.

Previously, the AICPA asked for fee relief and deadline clarification These are among a series of letters from the AICPA to the IRS during the COVID-19 pandemic urging action or communication about needed steps.

The  AICPA has called for the following actions:                                                                                       *Financial relief from underpayment and late payment fees;                                                                                *A halt to automatic collection activities                                                                                                                                                                                                     *An expansion of the existing temporary e-signature relief.
