Jackson Hewitt Launches Online Tax Prep

Jackson HewittPARSIPPANY, N.J., - Jackson Hewitt Tax Service has joined the online preparation competition with a product called Jackson Hewitt Online that is designed for do-it-yourself files which provides free preparation and efiling of simple 1040s, with pricing for other individual returns based on complexity. However, the company is charging $28.95 each for filing state returns.

The new product can be accessed at www.jacksonhewittonline.com, and through a link from Jacksonhewitt.com.

The Jackson Hewitt product comes as its larger rival, H&R Block, returns to the online market this tax season with a product called Best of Both that is a revamped version of an online offering from last year that the company said could have been better. Best of Both enables clients to prepare returns online and have them reviewed by a professional preparer.

Jackson Hewitt is also offering a Deluxe version for $28.95, which serves taxpayers with more detail returns, including those who itemize deductions and credits, file child and dependent care expenses or have retirement account income, and stock and bond sale and losses.

A Premium edition, priced at  $46.95, is for filers who claim dependents and who must file as small business owners, sole proprietors or single-member LLCs, freelancers, the self-employed, 1099 contractors, partnerships or multi-member LLCs, or S or C corporation
