Brooklyn Preparer Gets Three-year Sentence

irsA Brooklyn, N.Y., preparer, who continued to file fake returns after her firm's Electronic Filing Identification Number was revoked, has been sentenced to three years in prison. Awilda Rosario, 40, drew the sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false income tax returns.

Rosario must also serve one year of supervised release and pay $607,904 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.

Through her tax preparation business, Edujas Multiservices Corp., Rosario prepared doctored income tax returns for clients for tax years 2008 through 2013. She utilized business losses not incurred by the taxpayers and entered inflated or phony deductions. She also claimed education and fuel tax credits that taxpayers were not entitled to receive.

After her firm's EFIN was revoked, she obtain at least two other EFINs and continued to submit fraudulent returns that listed a different paid tax return preparer and tax preparer firm.
