The company was careful in emphasizing there is no rush for its customers to move to the cloud. Thomson will continue to support and develop the desktop based products such as Accounting CS and UltraTax, said Jon Baron, managing director of the professional segment of the company's Tax & Accounting business.

"We will be ready when you are and move to Onvio," Baron told attendees at the company's Synergy user conference this week. He urged them to consider the line after tax season. Baron also told the the audience videos shown regarding the new line represent working products. "It is real; these are videos that capture live software," he continued.

Subscription pricing has not yet been disclosed. In a press briefing at the conference, executives said Onvio will be rolled out over a few years.

Thomson is following a similar path in architecting the product as has Wolters Kluwers with its CCH Axcess Suite. Onvio is built around a common database and modules will have the same look and feel.

At the briefing, they said the company will continue to develop its web-based GoSystem RS Tax and GoFileRoom, document management system, that is marketed to larger firms.
