Florida Preparers Indicted

dojTwo Miami, Fla.-area preparers have been indicted on charges they used first-time homebuyer credits to swindle the government. The separate indictments charge Noe Mompoint of Southwest Ranches, Florida, was charged with 14 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false federal income tax returns. Lucvens Francois, of Aventura, Fla., faces 19 counts on the same charge.

Mompoint owned the firm. Francois, who operated a branch of the Tax Resource Center, was charged with using phoney homebuyer credits and with using bogus education credits, business losses and itemized deductions to boost his clients' refund.

The two face a maximum three-year prison sentence and fine of $250,000 on each count, if they are convicted.
