TaxAct Up Double Digits

Revenue for the tax preparation operations of Blucora rose by 17 percent for the second quarter ended June 30 and up 13 percent for the tax season. Blucora, parent of TaxAct, said the tax revenue reached $26.5 million for the most recently quarter, up from $22.7 million a year earlier.

William Ruckelshaus, Blucora Blucora CEO William Ruckelshaus said during a recent webcast that the performance of the TaxAct subsidiary, now through its second full tax season, had been good. "We are pleased with the track record so far." Ruckelshaus singled out a new tablet offering and TaxAct Express for smartphones as having been well received.

Tax revenue for the half was $98.7 million, compared to $87.4 million in last year's corresponding period.

Company-wide earnings were $8.7 million, an increase of 3.9 percent from $8.4 million. Total revenue was $141.6 million, 20.8-higher than the $117.2 million registered a year earlier.

Blucora's other segments are its InfoSpace search business that acquired How Stuff Works in May and Monoprice, an online retailer of self-branded electronics and accessories that was acquired in August 2013.
