A notice of the site states that "The groups responsible for maintaining the content on this website are no longer able to provide the required maintenance and updates necessary to maintain the website's on-going integrity." It was supposed to close on June 1, although posts were made on June 5, but there have been none since.

One of the groups was Intuit. A spokesperson confirmed, "we are no longer able to support the needs the site requires in terms of answering questions and keeping the site updated."

Intuit designed TaxAlmanac and it was set up to operate without any prominent identification with Intuit, which chose to give the website a .org status. One of the few times Intuit's name appears is in giving the mailing address for Intuit-Tax Almanac in Plano, Texas. However, in the early days Intuit was very proud of its involvement and a Wikipedia article about Intuit noted the site had quickly drawn national press coverage in the months after its launch.

TaxAlmanac maintained statistics for the number of conversations in its forum. Overall, there were 27,000 in the last report with 24,000 of these in tax. An information page, apparently from the early days of the service, says there were 70 Intuit employees working on it.
