Tax Software Issues Spur Watchdog Group

Jeffrey Rosenthal, Tax Preparers Watch GroupTaxWorks users who banded together to deal with disasters with that software package have reformed to deal with issues facing professional tax preparers. Called Tax Preparers Watch Group, the organization is seeking to enlist anyone interested in dealing with software and governmental issues, indeed, any issues common to the tax preparation profession.

"We intend to be inclusive," says Jeffery Rosenthal of Villa Rose Associates, based in Marlboro, N.J., and Brooklyn, N.Y.

The members that formed the group had bonded together through social media when faced with severe problems of the TaxWorks software during Tax Season. The software, owned by a subsidiary of H&R Block, was sold to Thomson Reuters at the end of tax season.

Rosenthal says members want to address common issues and also to negotiate group pricing for products they use. He also wants it to evaluate major and minor vendors in areas such as functionality and price and "what the software will not do."
