TurboTax Unit Sales Rose 6 Percent

Dan Maurer, IntuitTurboTax unit sales were up 6 percent for the recently concluded tax season when compared to a year ago. Intuit released its final update for the 2012 on April 20 for the season through April 18, While digital tax unit sales were lower than expected, Dan Maurer, SVP and general manager of the company's consumer group, said Intuit believes it gained one point of market share online.

The final report showed the continuing trend of a double-digit rise in online sales while the number of desktop units sold fell. The sale of TurboTax units in all categories rose to 24.5 million, up from 23.1 million a year ago. The company sold just over 6 million desktop units, a drop of 3 percent from last year's 5.88 million. There were 17.5 million online units sold, compared to 15.76 million in the 2011 tax season.

The number of free file alliance units sold dropped to 1.76 million, a 6-percent decrease from last year's 1.25 million.
