IRS Selects Exam and Fingerprint Vendors
The Internal Revenue Service has selected Prometric to administer a competency examination and fingerprinting program and Daon Trusted Identity Services to offer fingerprinting services. The test and checks are part of the second phase of the IRS' increased oversight of federal tax return preparers.
Prometric will be responsbile for conducting a job analysis to ascertain the capabilities and knowledge needed by preparers. After a test plan is approved, the IRS will make specifications available to preparers. Testing is not required for CPAs, Enrolled Agents and tax attorneys. Fingerprinting will assist the IRS in evaluating applications for Preparer Tax Identification Numbers.
