AbacusNext Hires New CEO

Lezama AlexxandraAbacusNext, which owns HotDocs and OfficeTools, has named Scott Johnson as CEO. He replaces Alessandra Lezama, who was CEO of San Diego, Calif.-based AbacusNext from September 2013.

Johnson is a senior advisor to Providence Strategic Growth, an equity affiliate of AbacusNext’s majority owner, Providence Equity Partners. His track record over the last 10 years has been as an executive at companies that were sold or were in turnaround mode.

Johnson was CEO of Zephyr, which marketed continuous testing software, from June 2016 through December 2018. Zephyr was acquired by Smartbear September 2018. He was president and CEO of Social Solutions Global from 2013 through April 2016. That company, which makes software tools for nonprofits and government entities, which was acquired by Vista Equity Partners in June 2014.  

From 2009 through 2011, Johnson VP of public infrastructure of ABB’s Enterprise Software Group. He came to ABB from Mincom, which recruited him as part of a management team to turnaround operations. ABB acquired Mincom in May 2011.

The other AbacusNext product lines include Results CRM, AbacusLaw and Abacus Attorney, and the Sophos antivirus/antimalware software.
