Vanessa Mercurio Szajnoga has been appointed general counsel of JTH Tax, Inc. She has served the company as assistant VP, legal, since August 2015.

Wheaton joined the company in 2011. CEO John T. Hewitt said the changes would enable Wheaton to expand his focus on Liberty's governmental relationships. He coordinated the company's participation this year in the IRS Security Summit, which was aimed at combating identity-theft-related tax fraud.

Prior to working at Liberty, Wheaton was a partner at Troutman Sanders from May 2001 through February 2011.
