The Iris Software Group has acquired AccountantsWorld, a pioneering cloud software company in the practice management space. It the latest in a series of deals through which Iris has snapped up practice and document management companies, along with payroll and HR Vendors.
Preparer Must Pay $1.1 Million
A Gary, Ind.-based tax preparer, who prevously went to prison for tax fruad, has been sentenced to 39 months in prison in a second case. Dorian L. Hall, 47, must also repay $1,053,549.95 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
Canopy Snares $35M in Funding
Canopy, which markets practice management software, has raised $35 million in a Series BB round of funding. The company says the funding will be used to accelerate its business.
Term Loans Added to Funding Portal
A business term loan option for CPA firms and their clients has been added to the CPA Business Funding Portal. Current portal users can immediately offer term loans while new subscribers can do so later this week.
Bookgel Debuts Pricing App
Bookgel has released a pricing and closing application for accountants. The company describes its product as providing “a structured process to secure new business and reprice existing clients."
Xero Enhances Banc Rec
Xero has introduced bank reconciliation predictions. These use machine learning to predict contact and account codes for transactions that cannot be matched to invoices or bills using an organization’s bank rules, Xero’s matching logic or memorizations.

Accounting firms took home most of the Sage Intacct channel awards this year. The top awards also went to repeat winners.
Somerset CPAs Expands Cloud Practice
Somerset CPAs and Advisors has merged in Dataquest Solution’s Acumatica practice an affiliated company. The new organization, Somerset Technology Solutions will be led by David Gelula and Debbie Mazzullo from Dataquest and Jason Leveson from Somerset.
QBO Advanced Goes Desktop
Intuit has rolled out a desktop version of its QuickBooks Online Advanced applications. QBO Advanced for Windows is a free add-on for cloud-based users.
FreshBooks Buys German Company
FreshBooks, which recently received $130 million in funding, has acquire FastBill, an accounting and invoicing package in Germany. Terms were not disclosed.
