CCH/Thomson Tax Battle Going International

Kevin RobertWith the decision by Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting to purchase tax compliance products from Ernst & Young Australia, it's clear that the battle between CCH and Thomson Reuters is starting to heat up in the international tax arena as both make moves in the corporate tax market.

Wolters Kluwer is buying Tax Integrator, Fringe Benefits Tax Organiser and Global Integrator from E&Y in a move that the company said would expand its presence in the global corporate market and establish CCH as a leader in the market. In a written statement, Kevin Robert, CEO of Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting, said the company will continue to expand these products.

Thomson plans the launch of the OneSource Global Tax Workstation this year and also reorganized its Tax & Accounting business as part of its international expense. In 2009, it acquired Abacus, which sells corporate income tax products in several countries and VAT software in 19 countries, and Sabrix, which marketed sales and use tax applications. These will provided at least part of the workstation's functionality.

Among the E&Y products, Tax Integrator was designed for corporate tax compliance in Australia and New Zealand while Global Integrator is used in the tax compliance workflow products in several countries.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. All employees in the E&Y Tax Compliance Software organization would be offered jobs with WK.
