Family Stole and Pleads Together in ID Theft

Justice logoSix members of an Alabama family accused of using a family tax service to file phony returns have pleaded guilty to a variety of charges stem from ID theft. The Justice Department said the defendants and co-conspirators participated in filing more than 700 returns that claimed more than $1.3 million in refunds.

Pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and one count of aggravated identity theft was Barbary Murry, who owned and operated the B&B Weaving Shop in Montgomery, Ala. Her daughter, Yolanda Moses, owner and operator of B&B Tax Service, pleaded guilty both pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, one count of theft of public funds and one count of aggravated identity theft, as did Veronica Temple. Douglas Murry pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and one count of aggravated identity theft while Lee Moses and Jeffrey Temple both pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return.

As outlined by the indictment, between January 2006 and April 2012, Yolanda Moses and her sister, Veronica Temple, obtain stolen IDs from a variety of sources and then they and the others file false tax returns via the B&B Tax Service and from their homes. Refunds were deposited in more than 10 bank accounts controlled by the defendants and co-conspirators.
