AICPA: Expand Appeals Sites

The Internal Revenue Service should use a variety of techniques to make Appeals conferences accessible to as many taxpayers as possible, the American Institute of CPAs said this week.

The AICPA’s recommendations included establishing Appeals offices in states where there are not. It also would like to see agreed upon sites allowed, the taxpayer’s office, the taxpayer’s representative’s office, or neutral venues such as courthouse conference rooms.

The association also recommended encouraging the use of hybrid conferences.

In addition, the AICPA said transferred cases should be prioritized by original filing dates and ensuring all facilities are ADA accessible.
