A New Jersey tax preparer has been permanently barred from preparing federal tax returns for others. Carmen Gonzalez was barred this week as the result of a civil injunction issued in a federal court. Gonzalez consented to the action without admitting wrongdoing. Gonzalez, who lives in Allentown, Pa., operates Carmen Tax Services in New Brunswick, N.J. She was accused of falsifying deductions and listing bogus dependents on her customers' returns in order to claim the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit for them.Gonzalez is required to a letter to all customers for whom she prepared a federal tax return since Jan. 1, 2005, informing them that she is no longer permitted to prepare tax returns for others.
