Scott McFarlaneBAINBRIDGE, ISLAND, Wash. – Sales and use tax vendor Avalara has continued on the acquisition path with its merger with Taxcient, a San Diego-based company that supplies Web-based sales tax automation services and also tax filing and compliance services for large businesses. Taxcient, formerly known as vAudit Group, employes a team of former state tax auditors, technologists and financial system industry executives

Taxcient’s CEO Larry Wolfe was formerly an SVP of Intuit. Its chairman, Bill Harris, former Intuit CEO, joined Avalara’s board of directors. Harris was also previously CEO of PayPal. Avalara acquired Independent Systems and Programming, a sales tax software company in 2008, and TrustFile, an electronic filing firm, in 2007. Avalara CE Scott McFarlane said the Taxcient merger would enable his company to provide “enterprise-level exemption certificate management functionality to the SMB market, exactly as we’ve done in the sales tax calculation and filing arenas.”
