Former N.Y. Preparer Pleads to Fraud

DOJA former Queens, N.Y., tax preparer has pleaded guilty to using a variety of bogus deductions to inflate client tax returns. Vanya Thompson, 39, who operated tax businesses under a variety of names, admitted falsifying items on returns, which the Depature of Justice said produced a tax loss of $250,000.

Thompson's companies included Lyn Services, Ricardo Multi-Service and Katie's Multi-Service. Her techniques for bolstering refunds included bogus charitable deductions and business income, expenses, and losses,

Thompson is scheduled to be sentenced on June 2. She faces a maximum sentence of three years, supervised release, restitution and monetary penalties. She also agreed to being prohibited from preparing federal tax returns  for  others.
