This is my first year of using Tax Works and I for one will never use it again. The support team is horrible and no one has a clue in the IT department. Fixes are random at best and returns are being rejected because of minor infractions. Read more...

I have been a tax practitioner since 1977, so I know something about taxes as well as the grass-roots industry of tax preparation, having consistently practiced both. I have been an ATX user since 2002. With the introduction of the new 2012 ATX tax preparation platform, I feel as if I am a rat behind the glass in a science experiment gone terribly wrong. It has been a nightmare and continues to keep me up at night. Like many others in my profession, they are about to lose another, otherwise loyal customer. Read more...

I requested my ATX refund 1-24-13, zero response from CCH. Read more...

I would just like to confirm that the problems have not been solved. This software is absolutely the most terrible thing that has ever happened to me in my business. It takes over five minutes to load the program to start with, then at least five minutes to load a return. You can't load more than one return as promised because it freezes the computer, and sometimes it just freezes the computer anyway. It takes about five minutes to load the printer to print the client copy and another five minutes to print the preparer copy. There are mistakes in the software that have to be overridden. Until the last update if I tried to load a return I had already started the program said there was a problem and the whole software dumped and I had to start over. The software problems have at least doubled the amount of time I have to spend on my clients tax returns. It has been an absolute nightmare and it has not gotten any better. I too spent over three hours on the phone and finally hung up. I emailed the tech support and finally got an answer four weeks later. What a nightmare. Read more...

Practitioner's ongoing problems with a Taxwise 12th year User

This has been by far the worst experience with Taxwise. I have had clients who have threatened to take their returns some place else. Each day before I CAN MAKE AN EFILE, I have to re-install the previous day updates. My system somehow does not retain the previous day update. I get validations errors everyday. If I have ten returns in the queue. each has to have a diagnostic run on each and has to separately have the update applied before the return is stored on the disk to be sent. It is tres frustrating an time consuming. Read more...

ATX is a complete failure. As of today March 6, 2013 it still takes forever to print a return. It crashes frequently, sometimes in the middle of printing a return. I find it interesting that the refund policy was not broadcast. I have sent numerous emails demanding a refund and have never received a reply. I take from your article that one had to visit the website to find out about the refund offer. It fits their profile to avoid responsibility for the damage to our business. It easily takes twice as long to process a return under their current version which supposedly has fixes. CCH has seriously damaged my business. I won't forget how they treated us. Read more...

Walters Klower tried to shove me toward that steaming pile of code last year when I balked at the cost of ProSystemfx. CCH/Walters Klower has no motivation to fix ATX when they can apply bait-and-switch tactics to extort cash for ProSystem fx. Intuit ProSeries is a much better choice. Read more...

TaxWorks by Red Gear

There are still some very serious problems with their product. I would estimate that their tax program, when you look at all the various returns and forms, is only about 70% up and running accurately. Read more...

I can see your frustration, I had been taking classes since 1996 IRS tax forums since 2005, even when they was optional you need to be at the top if you really care about the job you are doing, i see and issue with the program and that is that at least on my Area (Denver Colorado Metro) are many Tax preparers that does not even put a name on the taxes they prepare many people come to the office with trouble and under signatures they show SELF PREPARED I think that is where the IRS need to be investigating. The PTIN now needs to be renew every year at a cost(not expensive but still)IRS classes (Tax Forums) and exams are run by outsourced companies so it is more expensive that way. Business is lower every year since more people are using the applications for computers or on line services, many issues I talk to the IRS people always get an "I DO NOT KNOW" or "we are working on it". I like the idea of a tax preparer exam that can be done at the Tax Forums at a low cost and or if you are taking the training just get the PTIN renew, but i will like the IRS to try to go after the people preparing taxes for others and not even signing their names, they are the ones that are making our job more difficult. This is my first year with CCH what a year!!! after the second week of problems that the support team could not fix they told me it was my PC I do taxes not PC's. So I bought a new computer, I was told it would take about 1 hour to transfer from one pc to the other. 13 1/2 hours later they said it was done and everything was fine. Well I had canceled all my appointment's the first day (after 3 hours I called my clients and canceled the day) Now its a new morning and guess what the program is as messed up today with the new pc as it was yesterday with the old one, again canceled my clients for a second day. I have had support people hang up on me more then once, they also have said over and over that it is not the software that has the problem! Only one support tech has helped, I think she is the only one who knows what to do, even the sales person that I ordered with does tech support??? Read more...
