Lacerte and ProSeries Data Import Tested

Intuit is conducting a test of importing tax information into its desktop tax preparationIntuit ProLine logo software packages. The company has not published a release date and a spokesman would say only that it would be available in coming months. The ProLine Tax Import offering was available to customers in sneak peaks at the  Los Angeles Accounting and Business Show in June.

There are two elements to the plan, the first a scan-and-populate process via which source documents will be scanned by users and the information uploaded to Intuit for tax line assignment. The data is then reviewed and imported. The capabilities will be available first for Lacerte, with plans to develop it for ProSeries later.

However, users will be able to download 1099 information directly from the financial institutions. They will be able to use Intuit's servers to enter accounts and passwords to logon to their accounts at financial institutions. This feature will be available for both Lacerte and ProSeries.
