Avalara Buys VAT Products

Patrick Wille, VAT Applications Avalara has acquired VAT Applications, a company based in Belgium that develops the iVAT suite of applications. It is the latest in a series of acquisitions Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based Avalara has made in the indirect tax market. This year, the sales and use tax company has already acquired to specialized indirect tax companies, HotSpot Tax and EZtax.

VAT Applications was founded by CEO Patrick Wille in December 2000. The iVAT Suite includes VAT determination and compliance products, including a cloud-based tax determination and invoice preparation application and an automated VAT compliance service for filing returns in all European countries in the required formats and appropriate languages. The company's customers range from small businesses to multi-national European companies.

"Our extensive library of statutory tax content incorporates the rules and provisions that govern the determination of the applicable VAT regime. Joining forces with Avalara will help advance our business and meet the demands of today's fast-growing global marketplace," Wille said in a prepared statement.

The iVAT products will be featured on Avalara's VATLive.com online service, which the company acquired last year. VATLive.com is a free service.
