Avalara Buys VAT Online Service

Richard Asquith, Avalara Sales-and-use tax vendor, Avalara has acquired VATLive.com, an online service that provides tax news, analysis and rate changes. The Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based company said the move is important in its work to expand globally by supporting indirect tax needs in other countries. Avalara said it will maintain and develop the VATLive.com

The acquisition follows Avalara's closing of a $100-million round in funding. Among other recent expansion moves was its announcement of a 40,000-sq.ft. office in Durham, N.C., that will house 115 employees initially.

Richard Asquith, the former administrator of VATLive.com, who joined Avalara in July, noted in a prepared statement that VATLive services include "country-specific guides on ever-changing tax rates, returns, registrations, and filings from across the world, referenced by thousands of unique visitors every day."

Avalara's TaxRates.com portal performs a similar role in the United Sates.
