CCH Drops CDs, XP Support

wolters kluwer CCHWolters Kluwer CCH has become the latest major player to move to download only of its tax product. And the Riverwoods, Ill.-based vendor is also dropping support of Windows XP, something that most other companies have also done as Microsoft has ended support of one of it oldest operating systems.

CCH made the announcement this week at its Connections conference in Orlando, Fla. Drake Software offers CD delivery of tax software as does Intuit for its Lacerte software, but not for ProSeries. An Intuit spokesperson says 30 percent of Lacerte users still request discs. Tax Act also offers CD delivery as an option, Thomson Reuters offers download only and ended support for Windows XP on June 30.

CCH also noted the limits on the number of years of tax files that can be maintained in ProSystem and Global fx. Both support only 10 years of tax files, which must then be moved or archived.
