Court Nixes Block Suit Against Intuit

Intuit logoA federal court has rejected the effort by H&R Block to force Intuit to withdraw two TurboTax television advertisements. Block had claimed the ads were misleading and also that Intuit had infringed on the tax store chain's trademark.

Intuit's TV spots have stated Block advertises that applicants hired as  tax season employees need no tax preparation experience. The ads also focus on couples who meet a plumber and a retail store clerk who had prepared their returns. Block claimed the ads left a false impressed that its preparers were not well trained, nor were they tax experts.

The federal court in Kansas City, Mo., denied  Block's motion for a temporary restraining order that would have halted the Intuit ads.
