The Simple Notice Initiative involves reviewing and redesigning hundreds of notices with an immediate focus on the most common notices.  Work will accelerate in the 2025 and 2026 filing seasons for individuals and then expanding into business notices.

There are 31 redesigned notices available for this year’s tax season. About 20 million of such notices were sent in calendar year 2022. For filing season 2025, the 200 notices that make up 90 percent of the total volume sent to individuals will be reviewed and redesigned. The IRS said this represents about 150 million notices sent in 2022
