The Shapiro took the interim role following the resignation of former CEO, Elaine Weiss, late in 2012. Weiss left to take the job as CEO of the American Academy of Dermatology. She started in the Illinois position in June 2012.
Before joining the CPA Society, Shapiro was director of finance for Unilever and has 20 years of financial and managerial experience with Helene Curtis, Quaker Oats, Zenith Electronics and Continental Bank.
