AICPA Donates to Habitat for Haitian Relief

AICPA logoNEW YORK  — The American Institute of CPAs has donated $40,000 to Habitat for Humanity International to assist in efforts to help Haiti recover from its terrible earthquake. The donation was made possible by member contributions to the CPAs in Support of America Fund, a relief fund that was formed after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and was also used to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The $40,000 will be used to help 10 families repair and reconstruct homes, including “core houses” that are permanent structures with separate sanitation facilities designed to be expanded over time by their families. These dwellings meet international humanitarian standards and are resistant to earthquakes and hurricanes.

Habitat's goal is to help 50,000 Haitian families who lost their homes to improve their living conditions through the distribution of shelter kits, and by removing and recycling debris, repairing and constructing new and transitional homes and providing training for residents to help improve living conditions.
