CCH Mostly Back Up as Week Ends

Most CCH products were back on line as the work week ended on Friday, May 10.  Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting noted the need to scan and test each product and network as they were brought back up following this week’s malware-induced worldwide outage.

Meanwhile, after electronic fling was restored on May 9, WK told customers the Internal Revenue Service has approved a seven-day filing extension for returns due on May 15. The communication was posted on Reddit and was shown as coming from the "Wolters Kluwer Team".

The outage began around 10 am Monday, May 6, when WK discovered the presence of malware—the variety has not been publicly identified—and then began taking down systems to prevent greater damage.

The only product the company listed as “still in process” as for Friday morning was TaxWise Online. Listed as online were SureTax, Axcess, AnswerConnect, IntelliConnect, Accounting Research Manager, the electronic filing system for medium and large-firm customers, the ATX and TaxWise desktop electronic filing, and Trust US electronic filing.

WK told customers that the IRS has provided special instructions for how delayed returns are being handled. The company will provide those on Monday, May 13. WK Is also working with state agencies to seek similar extensions.
