CPA Exam Launches Internationally

Candidates have taking the CPA exam in four countries, the first time it has been administered in other countries. The exam was given on August 1 in Japan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates and is being given throughout August.

The exam was launched by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy and Prometric. During the rest of the month, 1,165 candidates will sit for 2,065 examination sections.

The test will be given in November, February, May and every third month after that. The sponsors said the test is being offered internationally in English because of demand. Last year, more than 10,00 international candidates travelled to his country to take the exam, a 22-percent increase over 2009. Nearly a third of these were from Japan.

Testing is open to citizens and long-term resident of the countries in which the test is given. American citizens can use any location while citizens of Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia may take the exam in one of the Middle East locations.
